FUNDING ASSOCIATION
Association for the Support of the Institute for the Law of Digitisation at the Philipps-Universität zu Marburg e.V.
On 19 November 2018, a non-profit association was founded to support the work of the Institute for the Law of Digitalisation. In addition to the two directors of the IRDi, Prof. Dr. Florian Möslein and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Omlor, the founding members are the professors of the University of Marburg, Prof. Dr. Stefanie Bock, Prof. Dr. Sven Simon, MEP, Prof. Dr. Torsten Wulff and Prof. Dr. Oscar Stolper (both economics). Another founding member is Dr. Johannes Meier, who currently serves as the association's treasurer. The law firms Schalast (Frankfurt), Fieldfisher (Frankfurt) and KKP (Wetzlar) and the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) are also involved.
The "Verein zur Förderung des Instituts für das Recht der Digitalisierung an der Philipps-Universität zu Marburg e.V." supports research and teaching at the Institute for the Law of Digitalisation. Particular attention is paid to the intensive exchange between academia and practice. In order to anchor this cooperation in the association from the outset, a scientific advisory board was established, whose members are legal theoreticians and practitioners.
In addition to the annual conference of the Institute for the Law of Digitalisation, the association supports the organisation of lecture series, seminars, workshops and colloquia dealing with various areas of law and their digitalisation. In the winter semester 2018/19, for example, the first lecture evening was organised in cooperation with the Law firm Fieldfisher under the title 'Digitalisation of Law: Studies, Exams and the Profession'.
In addition to such face-to-face events, the Association promotes academic publications in the field of digitalisation law. The work 'Möslein / Omlor (eds.), FinTech-Handbuch: Digitalisation, Law, Finance', soon to be published in its 2nd edition, is a pioneer of legal literature in this field.
In order to increase the pool of literature in the field of digitalisation law in the future, the founding directors of the Institute, together with Prof. Dr. Martin Will (EBS), are publishing the 'Schriften zum Recht der Digitalisierung' (SRDi) with Mohr Siebeck. In addition, a research prize will be awarded for particularly outstanding academic dissertations and post-doctoral theses.
Membership is open to all natural persons (Application for Membership) as well as legal persons and associations of persons (Application for Membership).
